Revivals in Palm Desert marks Black History Month
(PALM SPRINGS, CA – January 29, 2010)
Desert AIDS Project will feature art by John Fayson to commemorate February as National Black History Month at its Palm Desert Revivals store located at 73-608 Highway 111.
Presented by Bob Silva, a renowned art promoter and public arts pioneer, the Palm Desert Revivals Store will feature 6-10 pieces of original work by the recently-deceased Fayson, an acclaimed visual artist and longtime resident of North Miami Beach, Florida. Fayson, whose art is reminiscent of the style of French Impressionism, played a crucial role in the Black Arts Movement in Florida. In 2004, while serving as Minority AIDS Initiative Coordinator, Silva’s daughter, Toni Silva Brown, helped bring Fayson and his work to another exhibit benefitting Desert AIDS Project.
Bob Silva has done extensive work in bringing celebrated and distinguished art work to local desert communities through the local Library Arts Program and other exhibits benefitting local charities. In 2007, he acted as curator for an art sale that benefitted Desert AIDS Project. He has received special Congressional recognition three times for his work as well as Special Senate recognition. For further information regarding the art and artist featured, contact Bob directly at 760-774-4259.
Proceeds from all five Revivals stores directly benefit client services at Desert AIDS Project, the organization in our community where people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive support, including medical care, case management, and social services. D.A.P. also offers free and confidential HIV testing at a number of locations throughout the communities it serves. For more information call 760-323-2118.
