Grupo Latino to hold weekend retreat
(PALM SPRINGS, CA – May 27, 2009)
Grupo Latino, a client support group at Desert AIDS Project, will be holding a health and wellness retreat June 5-7 at Whispering Pines Cabins in Angelus Oaks. The weekend retreat will offer both individual and group activities including yoga, meditation, and workshops on depression and anxiety, as well as nature walks and arts and crafts.
Grupo Latino helps Latino men, women, and families confront issues of fear and loneliness, isolation and stigma, and hopelessness by replacing them with a sense of belonging that focuses on improving overall morale and health. The group, which meets at D.A.P. on the first and third Thursday of each month, has grown to more than 25 clients since it was created about a year ago.
Desert AIDS Project is the organization in our community where people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive support, including medical care, case management, and social services. D.A.P. also offers confidential HIV testing at a number of locations and widespread education and prevention services for schools, civic organizations, businesses, churches, and health organizations throughout the communities it serves.
