D.A.P. to dedicate dog park
(PALM SPRINGS, CA – April 30, 2009)
WHAT: Rick Landry Dog Park dedication
WHERE: Rick Weiss Apartments on campus of Desert AIDS Project
WHEN: Saturday, May 16 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Although press is invited, this event is specifically for residents of the Rick Weiss Apartments and not open to the public.
What better way to honor the memory of an animal lover than to name a place after him where dogs can run and romp with other members of their canine posse?
“Rick Landry was an uncomplicated, happy person who loved music, the outdoors, and animals,” says Michael Leppen, whose donation made construction of the Rick Landry Dog Park possible at the Rick Weiss Apartments on the campus of Desert AIDS Project. “Although his life was far too short, I think he would appreciate doing something a little special for the dogs that do so much to brighten the days of some D.A.P. clients.”
On Saturday, May 16, Leppen will be joined by Rick’s mother Flo, his sisters Chris and Tish, and many family friends to celebrate Landry’s life. Although residents of the Rick Weiss Apartments and guests attending the dedication will enjoy a barbecue lunch by New Leaf Catering, it will be resident pets that will really be the stars of the day.
Local veterinarian Dr. Kunz will be providing free check-ups and vaccinations and Red Rover Pet Grooming will perform light grooming for the 28 dogs and eight cats that live in the Rick Weiss Apartments. PETCO has underwritten rental of the tents that will make it more comfortable for everyone to participate in this outdoor event.
