Jungle Red painted a success for Desert AIDS Project … dahling
(PALM SPRINGS, CA – May 13, 2008)
Les Dames du Soleil once again had to turn away those who waited too long to purchase tickets because loyal fans turned out overwhelmingly for their annual Mother’s Day fundraiser for D.A.P. at the Wyndham Palm Springs. Although the accounting is not completed, the 465 paid guests helped Les Dames raise at least $65,000 for client services at Desert AIDS Project.
Despite fears of a lagging economy, the number and amount of “Diva Pledges” was strong from the very beginning of the evening. Les Dames du Soleil’s favorite “honorary Dame” Jackie Lee Houston made the largest individual pledge of $10,000 and made a Table Challenge to Andy Linsky and the other faithful D.A.P. supporters at his table. Andy, along with Michael Thomas, Tim Carlson, Curtis Barber, Gregg Seller, Brad White, Cary Lowe, Allan Ames, and Jim Rosen collectively met Jackie Lee’s challenge, raising another $10,000.
There were lots of other donations, including those from volunteers working the event and numerous individuals who gave $1000 each. Live Auctioneer Dick Taylor helped raise $12,500 with many thanks going to Kevin Kailey from Above and Beyond Travel who donated popular travel packages.
Great performances, perfect selection of audience-pleasing songs, hilarious gags, and crowd-pleasing costumes and props prompted audience comments that the Dames were at their usual best. Based on audience reaction and the continuing laughter and applause, the show was definitely a crowd pleaser. Desert AIDS Project is grateful to have the ongoing support of Les Dames du Soleil and greatly appreciates their donation of time and talent. To help minimize would-be show attendees in the future, D.A.P. is talking with the Wyndham about how more people can be accommodated at the next Les Dames performance.
Desert AIDS Project is the organization in our community where people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive support, including medical care, case management, and social services.
